Black-grass ‘buster’

Stackingenthusiasts will be pleased with the latest black-grass busting option -Bayer CropScience has announced full support for a pre-emergence application ofLiberator (flufenacet + diflufenican) and FPU (flupyrsulfuron) in winterwheat.

The companyhas chosen to support the tankmix – at rates of 0.6L/ha Liberator and 20g/haFPU – following consistent performance in trials.

FPU liftedpre-em control by up to 10%, says Tim Holt, herbicides product manager atBayer CropScience.  Whats more, it alsobrings some broad-leaved weed control to the mix, on cranes-bill, for example,as well as offering good value.

Liberator andFPU has matched or outperformed other tank-mixes across a range of sitesyear-on-year, notes Mr Holt.  Even in autumn2012, this tank-mix offered the best control.

In light ofgrowing resistance, the pre-emergence slot is becoming increasinglyimportant.   For growers facingparticularly stubborn black-grass, a pre-emergence stack containing three modesof action will be particularly useful; not only does it target black-grass whenit is most vulnerable but it takes out grass-weeds before they steal light, water and nutrients from the crop.

Cautionshould be taken where crops are stressed; any stack will be less safe thanusing straight Liberator. he warns. But in most seasons this tank-mix will help growers increase control atan important time of the year.
