HARVEST UPDATE – Spring Barley Results

30/09/2013 HGCA results for spring barley

Spring barley
Average yields in spring barley in 2013 were 7.32 t/ha which is above the five-year average of 7.09 t/ha, states HGCA’s Dr Simon Oxley. In 2013, Rhyncostar at 107 per cent and Propino at 106 have performed well. There are also some good yields being recorded in Candidate varieties, suggesting the step forward seen last year is continuing to be seen; Shada achieved a very respectable 111 per cent in 2013 and its five-year figure is 110.
Malting barley is more about quality nevertheless; Propino has yielded well and has full IBD approval. Odyssey, which has full malt distilling approval and provisional approval 2 for brewing, has a five-year average figure of 105.
