30/09/2013 HGCA results for winter wheat
With all the winter wheat results in for harvest 2013, the 2013 average yield was 9.73t/ha, which compares well with the five-year average of 9.88t/ha, comments HGCA’s Dr Simon Oxley. After a challenging autumn and winter for crops, the sunshine in the summer meant many varieties performed as expected in the 2013 harvest, he suggests.
In 2013, KWS Kielder achieved 108 per cent of the yield of the control varieties, Dickens 107 per cent and KWS Santiago 106 per cent. This compares well with the five-year average for these three varieties, he says.
For Group 1; Solstice and Crusoe achieved 99 per cent in 2013 which is slightly ahead of the five-year average for both varieties. Chilton was the highest Group 2 (103) in 2013, this again is in line with the five-year average figures. In Group 3, Cocoon with a recommendation for the East/West region achieved a yield of 105.
