A NEW design of tipping mechanism that ensures potato boxes and bags are fully emptied has been introduced by Tong Peal, a leading manufacturer of machinery for vegetable handling. Benefiting from the advanced design and enhanced strength of the linkage, the mechanism now allows the boxes or bags to be tipped through a wider arc - up to 150 degrees - while also requiring less energy to operate. The machine will handle boxes up to 1,800mm long ,or 1.25t jumbo bags, with a removable shelf fitted when tipping boxes. The Big Bag Box Tipper is a corner-pivot model with twin hydraulic rams that operate automatically through micro-processors and sensors, but with manual override. The lower hydraulic pressure with the new design reduces strain on the bearings. Like all Tong Peal machinery, the new unit is designed to meet stringent safety standards. In addition to a box-movement siren and box-empty beacon, the tipper is fitted with light guards that meet EC legislation. The light guards become active when the tipper cradle begins to lift and any breaking of the security beams at the entrance to the tipper will stop the machine. This foolproof, self-monitoring system provides a much greater degree of safety than simple sensor and reflector systems. The new mechanism is available on the company's range of tippers from £14,000 and on models handling up to 2t boxes.
