Specialist breeds catalogue

Increasing demand from UK dairy farmers for alternative genetics to pure Holstein has prompted Cogent Breeding to publish its first specialist breeds catalogue.

Including proven and young sires from eight different dairy breeds, the catalogue has up to date information on over 40 bulls in total, with around half potentially available as sexed semen.

We recognise the important roles that each of the breeds represented hold within the modern dairy industry and weve worked hard to ensure we have something to meet the requirements of all our customers, explains John Cochrane, UK sales manager for Cogent Breeding.

The demand for sexed semen is also increasing, as confidence grows in this technology and farmers become more aware of the opportunity to breed replacements only from their very best cows, creating the added opportunity to produce quality beef crosses from the remainder. We are therefore offering a good proportion of these specialist dairy breed bulls as sexed semen.

Many of the bulls in the catalogue are proven, but there is also an array of very good value young sires available from the Cogent Visions programme.

Cogent Breedings specialist breeds catalogue includes Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Dairy Shorthorn, Friesian, Jersey, Montbeliarde, Norwegian Red and Swedish Red. Farmers are advised to contact their local Cogent breeding advisor to obtain a copy or to call freephone 0800 783 7258.
