Bunn Fertiliser Ltd and Frontier Agriculture have announced a new partnership agreement that will see Frontier distribute Koch Advanced Nitrogen in the UK. Frontier has carefully researched Koch Advanced Nitrogen fertiliser performance in its own trials programme. Now into the third year of research, the product has performed extremely well with agronomic results placing it on par with ammonium nitrate.
Koch Advanced Nitrogen fertiliser is based on nitrogen in urea form which is combined with AGROTAIN nitrogen stabiliser thus resolving growers previous concerns about volatilisation. Results from the comprehensive DEFRA research project NT261 show stabilisation against volatilisation losses improved to the same category as those for products previously setting the standard such as ammonium nitrate.
Chris Tye, national fertiliser manager for Frontier says: Were delighted that weve reached agreement with Bunn to supply farmers with Koch Advanced Nitrogen fertiliser. This is the first replacement for ammonium nitrate that ticks all farmers boxes both commercially and technically. It is definitely a key crop nutrition product of the future in the UK and thats why we were keen to secure supply for our customers.
In addition to sound crop nutrition, the logistics behind supply of Koch Advanced Nitrogen fertiliser will enable Frontier to be more flexible when it comes to payment options and delivery of the end product to growers. It is not subject to the same bottleneck supply situation or market volatility as ammonium nitrate.
David Harrod from Bunn Fertiliser adds: We are pleased to have the leadership and support of Frontier for the supply and distribution of Koch Advanced Nitrogen fertiliser to its customer base. Frontier has the agronomic capability and geographic coverage to bring the Koch Advanced Nitrogen fertiliser benefits to UK growers.
A thorough analysis of UK field research by ADAS scientist Roger Sylvester-Bradley and colleagues2 concluded: Overall, Koch Advanced Nitrogen appeared to provide the best combination of economic performance and GHG intensity Additionally, it is the only product of its kind in the UK reviewed and registered by the European Commission, which provides an additional level of confidence.
Koch Advanced Nitrogen fertiliser also delivers a number of other business benefits when compared to ammonium nitrate:
More efficient handling and spreading plus reduced packaging disposal
Easier from higher nitrogen content per tonne means less material to handle
Simpler from non-hazardous classification without the security implications of ammonium nitrate making it easier and safer to store and transport
Mr Tye concludes: Koch Advanced Nitrogen is a great product that is based on proven science and backed by a major fertiliser supplier to the UK and beyond. The depth of UK performance evidence plus the added benefits of speed, simplicity and economic returns means this innovation will become a significant option for UK growers. Were continuing to evaluate its performance in the Frontier trials programme.
