Nationalplant and equipment hire company Morris Leslie Group, based in Perthshire and withnine depots throughout the UK, has recently expanded its hire fleet with theaddition of 50 new John Deere HPX Gator 4×4 utility vehicles, ordered fromOxfordshire based dealer Farol Ltd.

Inwhat is the biggest individual order ever made for Gators in the UK, these newmodels join another 30 HPXs bought in 2012. Together with older Gators, thisbrings the total number of John Deere utility vehicles in the Morris Lesliefleet to 140, making it the biggest Gator hire fleet in Europe.

Thenew machines will be based at Morris Leslies main plant hire depot in Woking,Surrey, and will be used mainly for short-term hire, both in the UK and abroad.Key customers include outdoor festivals and events, film and TV productioncompanies and grounds maintenance contractors. Gators are also a popular choicefor many other general transport applications requiring a strong, durable andversatile vehicle with high loading and towing capacities.

TheGroup has recently acquired three depots from Ambrose Hire Ltd at Stockport,Newark and Northampton. Some of the Gator fleet will be based at the Stockportdepot, which will serve the events market in the north of England.

Ourwell maintained fleet and professional service have been rewarded throughcontracts to supply equipment at many prestigious events, such as the LondonMarathon, V Festival and the Goodwood Festival of Speed, says owner and managingdirector Morris Leslie. We often find that TV and film stars even have theirown personal Gator for use when theyre on set!

Wevetried every brand of utility vehicle on the market, and John Deere ticks allthe boxes for us by far. Weve been buying Gators now for 15 years, and wevefound that they stand up better to the workload, and are better value formoney.

Groupoperations director Graham Ogilvie adds: The vehicle is reliable and easy tooperate, which makes it very convenient for the customer, and the whole lifeownership costs work out better for us too theres really nothing to touchit.

Thenew HPX Gators are equipped as standard with a basic ROPS canopy, and have beenspecified with heavy-duty tyres, bed liners and trailers, as these areregularly requested for towing materials at events, for example.

Wealso have an established relationship with Farol and have found them to be avery good dealership to work with, says Graham Ogilvie. In our industry wedeal with a lot of manufacturers and different products, and both Farol andJohn Deere are right at the top when it comes to doing business and theirafter-sales back-up service.
