New generation Novacat mowers from Pttinger

The Novacat 302 is one of the new rear mowers from Pttinger

Pttinger has rounded off its range ofNovacat rear mowers. In addition to the Novacat 402, 442 and 352, there are nownew generation Novacat 262 and 302 mowers, each available with ED tine-type orRC roller-type conditioner, or with swath formers instead of aconditioner.

The two new rear-mounted mowers; Novacat 262 and 302 have working widths of 2.62 and 3.04 metres. The central element onthese two models is the unique hydraulic lower linkage arm that enables easymounting without having to adjust the tractor hitch struts. This guarantees thehighest level of convenience, says the company, as using the hydrauliclower linkage arm the headstock can always be brought into the correcthorizontal position – independently of the geometry of the tractor hitch. Inaddition, this system optimises weight distribution as well as providingexcellent ground clearance (50 cm on the inside) for headland turns andtransport on the road. Ground tracking is also optimised as a consequence.

Duringtransport the mower is pivoted hydraulically upwards by 115 degrees so with themower on the tractor centreline the highest point is in the middle and stability optimised. This ensures compact and safetransport of the mower. The standard parking position is to the side in theworking position; parking stands are also available so that the mower can beleft in the transport position to save space.

Theheart of both mowers is the proven Novacat cutterbar with quick-change knifesystem as standard. Slanted cone surfaces, optimised counter-chop zone andoptimised overlap of the knife paths ensure perfect crop flow, first-classcutting quality and at the same time optimum protection of the sward.

Boththe Novacat 262 and 302 feature hydraulic weight alleviation. Lifting andalleviation are operated using completely separate systems. A clearly-visiblepressure gauge is fitted to the mower frame and the ground pressure can be beadjusted progressively if needed using a double-acting remote valve. Onefilling sets the right alleviation to guarantee uniform pressure on the ground- the prerequisite for optimum forage and ground protection.

Thecentre pivot suspension on both models enables a freedom of movement of +/- 22degrees. In order to guarantee optimum utilisation of effective working width, there is a choice of two different boom lengths for the Novacat 302 to matcheither 3.0 or 3.5-metre-wide front mowers. The mower unit is stabilized by asmall cylinder to cancel out oscillation. This makes turning easier and ensuressafety and stability at the headland and during transport.

Ifthe mower impacts an obstruction during operation, the integrated mechanicalcollision protection system allows it to deviate by 15 degrees to the rear. Thanks to the resulting extra clearance of around one metre, the mower is ideallyprotected against severe damage. Reversing the tractor automatically pivots themower back into the working position.

Ease of maintenanceis extremely important at Pttinger: the jointed shafts have an extendedservice interval (150 h) and the safety guards fold well clear to provideoptimum access to the cutter bar for quick and easy knife changes.

Boththe Novacat 262 and 302 are available with an ED tine-type conditioner or RCroller conditioner. The ED tine conditioner is fitted with the new design ofsteel tines mounted on rubber elements to guarantee an extended service life. The new position of the intake plate and the rounded geometry of theconditioner hood ensure efficient crop flow and uniform forage placement. Thisensures a rapid and consistent drying sequence. The conditioner is very easy tomaintain thanks to the external lubrication line for the rotor and the easily-accessible drive belt tensioner. The RC roller conditioner has been adoptedfrom the other mower models and features the new roller profile, which hasalready proven highly successful, says Pttinger.

Thenew Novacat 262 and 302 mowers also offer swath formations for alloperating conditions. There are four swath formation configurations available:wide spread without swath discs, swath disc on the outside (optional), swathdiscs on both sides, and additional swath discs.
