Harvest update – Winter wheat results
Winter wheat yields in RL trials are very close to the five year average of 9.93t/ha. Hard feed wheats top the yields in the 2013 RL trials. KWS Kielder currently tops the standings, achieving a yield of 108 per cent of the average of control varieties, closely followed by Dickens (107) , KWS Santiago (106), Conqueror (105) and Cocoon (105), says HGCA’s Dr Simon Oxley. On yield performance alone, which is no indicator of quality, of the nabim Group 1 varieties, Crusoe and Solstice achieved 99 per cent, in Group 2 the best yields came from Chilton (102 per cent) and Panorama (99 per cent). Group 3 varieties are led by Cocoon (105) and Delphi (103) in 2013.The soft feed Group 4 varieties Cougar (104) Leeds (102) and Revelation (102) have performed well. When selecting varieties, the 5-year average figures provide a better picture as to how varieties will perform in a wide range of differing seasons.
