Farmers Rebecca Wilson and Charlotte Ashley are taking agricultural conversations off the beaten track as they launch a new podcast.

The show, hosted from a unique mobile studio, is set to bring together their existing personal brands and deep-rooted farming knowledge. Rebecca and Charlotte said that they will offer a fresh, unfiltered perspective that reflects their different backgrounds and farming enterprises.

Rebecca works on the family sheep and arable farm in the Vale of York, where she is the fifth-generation farmer.

Recognising the challenging time that farming is in, practices on the farm are centred around producing food as sustainably as possible, both when it comes to the environment and the financials.

Spending a lot of time speaking at events and raising the profile of agriculture in the political sphere and in mainstream media, Rebecca has recently been recognised as one of the 30 most influential and inspiring people under 30 in The Times Young Power List.

Charlotte is a relative newcomer to farming but has seen massive success on social media with her often light-hearted but educational videos about what really goes into producing food.

Situated in the Eden Valley, the farm is home to sheep and a herd of Jersey cows. But what is different about this enterprise is that the robots milk cows automatically whenever they choose, ensuring heightened welfare and an efficient process from start to finish.

‘This isn’t your usual farming podcast’

After first meeting a few years ago, the farming pair have come together to create a podcast which is not just for farmers. With topics inspired by pop culture, social media, and mainstream news, the podcast is built to resonate far beyond the farm gate, the duo said.

“This isn’t your usual farming podcast,” said Rebecca. “We’re talking about everything from chlorinated chicken to OnlyFans—nothing is off the table.”

“The podcast combines the raw, hilarious and sometimes controversial conversations you wish you’d overheard – think of it as voice notes between two friends who aren’t afraid to say what everyone else is thinking.

“The concept behind the podcast originated with Ashley, who wanted listeners to ‘feel like they were joining in with a conversation over a brew, catching up on the news of the day with a rural twist’.

Rather than relying on a traditional guest format, the pair are keeping things fresh by weaving in voice notes from listeners for real opinions, expert co-hosts to bring depth when it is needed and sharp production and crystal-clear sound quality, so the listening experience is top-notch from the first second.

Listeners have been quick to praise the first episode, which draws on a video posted to social media by Isle of Bute shepherdess and star of This Farming Life, Emma Gray, asking if the disconnect between farmers and consumers is bigger than ever.

The duo also chats about the superhit Netflix series Adolescence. Their own social media profiles have been built on mobile phones, but is there a dark side?

Describing the podcast as ‘a breath of fresh air’, ‘needed to help educate the public’ and as having ‘a great format’, followers are excited to hear what direction the duo heads in next.

As well as recording from their mobile studio, Wilson & Ashley will be hitting the road, turning up at events across the UK to record on location and connect with their audience face-to-face.

The podcast is out now, and you can listen on all major podcast platforms, including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
