‘We’ll take news to them’ – farmers to protest outside BBC studio
29th April 2025
Farmers are set to gather outside the BBC South recording studio tomorrow to put farmers’ current issues in the spotlight.
The demonstration organised by campaigning group Farmers To Action will see about 30 tractors parked outside the BBC South recording studios in Southampton on Wednesday, 30th April, at 12pm.
A spokesperson for Farmers To Action said: “We in Hampshire obviously haven’t got any local elections, so we decided to visit the BBC South studios to see why the BBC won’t put current farming issues in their news broadcasts.
“They won’t put us on the news, so we’ll take the news to them.
“Hope to see you there; we’ve got one local contractor who’s bringing his guitar and singing a song he’s written about the industry’s issues too.”
‘Tribute to the resilience of British farmers’
The protesters plan to use their street action as a “reminder of wartime food insecurity”.
The demonstration will showcase machinery that kept Britain fed during the war — a tribute to the resilience of British farmers.
The rally was organised by the Landworkers’ Alliance in partnership with over 20 other organisations, including Sustain, Wart on Want, Pesticide Action Network UK and the Real Farming Trust.
Together, they demanded the systemic transformation of the UK’s food and farming system underpinned by a legally enshrined ‘Right to Food’.
