Shaun Christopher Lloyd, 39, of East Parade in Rhyl, burgled the farmer’s shed in April last year, taking the Suzuki quad bike.

The elderly farmer was woken by the sound of her dog barking in the early hours of 26th April last year, and discovered the lock to the secure farm gate had been cut and her quad bike was missing.

She had been heavily reliant on the bike to carry out her daily farming duties.

An investigation was launched by North Wales Police’s Rural Crime Team, who uncovered CCTV footage of the stolen quad being driven away along the Coast Road, and phone data linking Lloyd to the burglary.

A picture of the stolen quad, taken shortly after it was stolen, was also found on his phone, as well as a message in which he discussed riding the stolen bike from Rhuddlan.

Lloyd admitted a charge of burglary and was sentenced at Mold Crown Court on Tuesday, 14th October, where he was jailed for two years and ordered to pay the victim £187.

Investigating officer, PC Michelle Allsup said: “Not only was the victim in this case emotionally and financially affected, but she was also depended on the stolen quad bike to complete daily tasks around the farm. Working without it was a real physical struggle for her.

“The Rural Crime Team understands the significant impact rural crime has on victims, and we are committed to pursuing and targeting perpetrators.

“Lloyd’s sentence reflects the seriousness of the offence, and the often-underestimated impact rural crime has on its victims.”
