The South Suffolk Show took place at Ampton Point-to-Point Racecourse, near Bury St Edmunds, on Sunday 11th May.

The county event showcased the famous Imps Motorcycle Display – the world’s premier military-style display team – that performed in the grand ring with a disciplined drill of precision and skill on motorbikes, whilst 4 Strides Equestrian UK Ltd showcased the speed, agility and athletic ability of rodeo with barrel racing.

With the sky literally being the limit, the spectators enjoyed a Battle of Britain Spitfire Memorial Flypast over the showground, as well as had a chance to see the Royal Air Force Falcons Parachute Display Team dropping into the grand ring with their spectacular acrobatic aerial display.

There was also plenty to see and do outside the grand ring, including farriers in the forge, gun dogs working, pigs racing, musicians entertaining, farm machinery new and old, and tricks on wheels from the 3 Sixty Bicycle Stunt Team.

The Lifestyle Marquee was packed with unique creations, while the Food Hall was full of tempting treats.

What is more, sheep, pigs, cattle and horses were all competing for rosettes amongst trade stands galore and carefully selected food vendors.

Even canine companions were catered for with a fun dog show run by Pooch’s Yard of Thetford, taking entries on the day and offering rosettes for the waggiest tail and shiniest coat.

The 136th show

Show president for this year’s 136th show was Mrs Rose Turner, whose family has hosted the South Suffolk Show at the Ampton Point-to-Point Racecourse since 1986.

A horse lover who fondly remembers her father’s heavy horses whilst growing up on her family farm in Norfolk, Mrs Turner has collaborated with the Suffolk Horse Society to create a ‘Suffolk Spectacular’ with a selection of Suffolk Heavy Horses invited into the grand ring to demonstrate how these beautiful beasts have become icons of the county.

Speaking about the 2025 show, chairman of The South Suffolk Agricultural Association Ltd, Jim Mann, said: “We are delighted that the steps taken last year to improve traffic flow into the showground were successful and are always looking to improve the show.

“This year the organising committee has taken steps to reduce queues at the public bar. We hope that our visitors enjoyed both the bigger bar in the picnic area, as well as a second bar complete with viewing platform in Eat Street!”
