Essex: Farm building and tractors damaged in fire

A farm building and several vehicles, including two tractors, were severely damaged in a fire on a farm in Sutton, Essex.

Firefighters from the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident on Monday morning, 15th September.
When crews from five local stations arrived, they confirmed that the fire had spread from the wooden barn to two tractors, caravans and vans in the yard.
Initially crews had difficulty establishing a water supply and requested a water bowser.
Firefighters worked in different sectors to extinguish the fire. A fire investigation was carried out, and the cause of the fire was established as accidental, the force confirmed.
Farm fire safety advice
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has issued the following fire safety advice for farmers:
- Get to a safe place and call 999 immediately.
- Be ready to give:
- the full location (including What3Words or grid reference)
- what’s burning or at risk (e.g., hay, fuel, chemicals)
- information about fire engine access and water supply
- stay clear of the fire and make yourself known to crews on arrival
- be prepared to evacuate livestock or assist with machinery if needed.
