British Sugar factories recognised for their sustainability and environmental efforts
12th November 2025
Two British Sugar factories have been shortlisted in the Environmental and Sustainability category at the EDP Norfolk Business Awards 2025.

Teams at the Cantley, the oldest British Sugar factory, and Wissington, its largest site, said that this recognition is testament to their ongoing commitment to find new and innovative ways to keep improving factories’ environmental and sustainability performance.
Andy Dilks, site general manager for Cantley sugar factory, said: “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted in the EDP Norfolk Business Awards for Cantley and Wissington’s joint efforts in environment and sustainability. This recognition wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication, hard work and passion of our incredible teams and colleagues.”
Mr Dilks added that the introduction of a new combined heat and power plant at the Cantley factory marks a significant change for the site’s carbon emissions and energy efficiency moving forward.
While at Wissington, the new steam drying project will deliver the largest decarbonisation savings of any project in the company’s history.
“We continue to explore ways to decarbonise our operations and bring us closer to our ambition of being net zero by 2050.
“We look forward to celebrating our achievements, and those of the other finalists in this category, at the awards ceremony later this month,” he concluded.
