Farmer impressed with spreader

When South Lanarkshire farmer Duncan Allison decided it was time to replace his aging muck spreader, he spent a day at the Royal Highland Show comparing the options.

Richard Western’s Delilah D10 vertical manure spreader stood out from the crowd as the strongest build, with a number of appealing design features. Since taking delivery in August, the mixed hill farmer says he’s “incredibly impressed”.

Stand-out features include the heavy-duty axle, heavier drive line than others on the market, and a cam clutch rather than a shear bolt, he explained. Additionally, the floor chains are driven by innovative sprockets which bolt to the drive hubs, making them easy to replace without the usual need to cut
out rusted solid driveshaft when worn out.

It’s predominantly used for well-composted straw court manure, but Duncan has also tried some fresh court manure through it and said the evenness of spread is “tremendous”. Accuracy of spreading is key for bringing up soil indices and the D10 offers that, he added.

It was purchased from Bryson Tractors who Duncan says look after him well. “If there ever is a problem with the machine, you know you’ve got the back up there from them,” he concluded.
