Guinness World Record: Welsh farmer will run half marathon in wellies
22nd January 2026
Welsh farmer Neil Johnson is attempting a Guinness World Record by running a half marathon in his wellies.

The 47-year-old farmer from Caerphilly will take part in the ABP Newport Half Marathon on 19th April.
During his Guinness World Record attempt, Mr Johnson will be fundraising for the Farming Community Network Cymru.
He said: “Farming is tough, and it can take a huge toll on people’s lives – too many times resulting in serious crises for those who own, run and work on farms. Issues are typically mental health related, financial, relational, the list goes on.
“In ways that are sometimes extreme, it gets too much for individuals and families. And regular government policy and market changes these days make it even tougher.”
Listening ear for farming community
Mr Johnson said that as a farmer himself, he wants to do something positive and exciting for his fellows, as well as highlight a “great charity that does amazing work to help make a real difference”.
“The Farming Community Network (FCN) organises an amazing team of volunteers who help farmers get the right professional help to get in a better place,” Mr Johnson added.
FCN Cymru/Wales area manager Linda Jones said: “I would like to sincerely thank Neil not only for his fundraising effort for FCN Cymru but also for his commitment to raising awareness for the work we undertake.
“As Welsh agriculture undergoes significant change, FCN Cymru is uniquely placed to support people across the industry on this journey. We provide a listening ear and help the farming community to develop resilience, manage change and prepare for the future.
“Neil’s fundraising effort for us will help staff and volunteers in Wales to be able to continue providing support to farming families who need us.”
