Sam has taken on the challenge to shine a national spotlight on the immense pressures farmers face every single day and to raise vital funds for the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC).

He said that his aim is to give the next generation of farmers the voice, confidence, and support they deserve.

From unpredictable weather and financial strain to isolation and long hours, British farmers are carrying more weight than ever before.

The Farm Safety Foundation research revealed that 95% of farmers under 40 believe that mental health is the biggest hidden problem facing farmers today.

Sam’s walk is a symbol of that struggle — but it is also a symbol of hope. He wants every farmer to know that support exists, that they are not alone, and that things can get better.

By taking on this challenge during Mind Your Head Week, the farmer has been calling for greater understanding, more open conversations, and stronger support for those who feed the nation.

Sam’s challenge that took place during the Farm Safety Foundation – Yellow Wellies 9th annual Mind Your Head Week, between 9th and 13th February, has raised £44,192.18.

His efforts were recognised by Prince William, patron of the We Are Farming Minds charity, who donated £5,000 for NFYFC.

The Prince of Wales wrote: ‘Keep going, Sam! You’re doing an amazing job! Thinking of you, W.’

A spokesperson for the Farm Safety Foundation said: “Like every journey, there have been bumps along the road, but Sam has faced each one with pride and determination – strengthened and spurred on by the good wishes of strangers, friends and family alike.”
