NFU Sugar seeks new board members
6th October 2025
Three positions on the NFU Sugar Board are up for election, with successful candidates joining the Board in March 2026.

The NFU Sugar Board is the democratically elected representative body of UK sugar beet growers, elected by growers, for growers, the NFU explained. Led by its elected chair, Kit Papworth, it determines the strategic direction of NFU Sugar.
All current sugar beet growers are eligible to stand for election to the board; they do not need to be a member of the NFU. In addition, professional farm managers who manage sugar beet contracts are also eligible to stand.
The NFU Sugar team said it relies upon the diverse skills and expertise of its board members to deliver on behalf of beet growers.
The role
A spokesperson for NFU said: “Board members will have the chance to influence NFU Sugar’s strategic direction in relation to negotiation, seed, the BBRO, Red Tractor, policy and more.
“They can also expect to benefit from professional development opportunities such as visits to conferences, events, trials, and workshops.”
Three positions are now up for election for a three-year term starting in March 2026. Candidates must be nominated by at least five growers.
“If you wish to join the NFU Sugar Board, please download and fill in our nomination form. Completed nomination forms must be scanned and emailed to nfusugar@nfu.org.uk before 5pm on Thursday 23rd October,” they continued.
If there are more than three nominees, then an election will be triggered with all growers invited to vote, NFU Sugar added. The outcome of the election will be known by the end of 2025.
