AHDB Beef & Lamb Ambassadors Group seeking farmer members

Beef and lamb producers with an interest in sharing ideas and making positive changes to their business are encouraged to apply for a national discussion group, funded and facilitated by AHDB.

The group has been set up to challenge current thinking, provide a platform for networking and knowledge-sharing, and motivate participants to enhance the efficiency and profitability of their own businesses.

There will be two meetings held annually over the course of three years, during which farmers will develop their technical and business skills through discussion and access to industry experts.

Group members will also learn about wider industry issues impacting the Beef & Lamb sector, and gain an understanding of how they can assist AHDB in its vision to protect and promote the industry’s reputation.

Meetings are tailored to the needs of the group and will provide farmers with the opportunity to host discussions on challenges directly related to their business. Benchmarking will form a key theme throughout, with costings and individual objectives set at the start of the programme.

Phil White, suckler beef farmer from Oxford and a former member of the AHDB discussion group, said: “I thoroughly recommend getting involved – benchmarking, learning new things and getting to know a fantastic network of farms has made a massive difference to my business.”

Leicestershire sheep farmer Mick Skinner, also a previous group member, said he had taken away valuable practical information from discussions with industry experts and other farmers at meetings. He encourages farmers who are keen improve their business to apply.

“Being part of the discussion group provides you with an opportunity to meet like-minded people who you wouldn’t normally meet, who are all facing similar challenges and with their help, as well as AHDBs, it can make a really positive difference to your business,” he said.

Applications close on Friday 4th August, and the first meeting is set to take place on 17th and 18th October 2023.
