Jobs saved after 117-year-old Scottish machinery dealership gets sold

Jobs have been saved after a 117-year-old Aberdeenshire agricultural machinery company was recently sold out of administration.

Balgownie Limited and Balgownie Rentals Limited have been sold out of administration to MacGregor Industrial Supplies Ltd.
Balgownie’s managing director Mike Singer and MacGregor Industrial Supplies finance director Douglas Fraser.

In March, Balgownie Limited and Balgownie Rentals Limited confirmed the news of going into administration. The joint administrators were Richard Bathgate and Graeme Bain of Johnston Carmichael.

The machinery dealership was established in 1907 and provided machinery to the agricultural, construction and ground care industries in northern Scotland.

Intention to reopen soon

Johnston Carmichael just confirmed that the business and assets had now been sold to MacGregor Industrial Supplies Ltd, preserving 15 jobs. The sale includes the Inverurie and Turriff trading sites.

The announcement reads: “Our intention is to reopen both Inverurie and Turriff branches on Monday 29th April, trading from these premises as MacGregor Industrial Supplies Limited, incorporating Balgownie.

“The business will remain closed until then to allow for staff training and MIS systems to be implemented. Sales staff will be available by phone during this time, and equipment requiring emergency repairs will be attended to where possible.

“We will endeavour to service and meet any customers needs through our Elgin and Aberdeen branches who will maintain their daily delivery services throughout the Aberdeenshire area.”

Aim to continue serving customers

Balgownie‘s managing director, Mike Singer, said: “We are delighted to be joining forces with MacGregor Industrial Supplies, and to be able to continue serving our loyal Balgownie customer base.

“This exciting new chapter sees us teaming up with a leader in the industrial supplies sector in the North of Scotland and opens up a large array of brands and products to further serve our customers.”.

MacGregor Industrial Supplies’ managing director, John MacGregor, added that this acquisition is “in line” with the company’s mission to grow MacGregor Industrial Supplies Limited.

He added: “Balgownie is a good fit for MIS as it shares the same values and core purpose. We believe the company and its customers will benefit from this acquisition as we continue to strengthen our product and service capability throughout Aberdeenshire and the MIS branch network.

“It is our goal to continue providing the highest level of customer service during this time and in the future”.
