Benefits of modern drainage

Land drainage is as old as agriculture itself and many of the existing systems from the early 20th century onwards still work today, says Andrew Wright, of Miles Drainage 20 Ltd. However, their performance is usually inadequate so they have been, or need to be, replaced by modern drainage systems – normally using shingle backfill and in clay soils, mole draining as a secondary treatment.
