York Machinery Sales reports surge in demand for second-hand farm equipment in 2025

UK auction house York Machinery Sales has reported a “landmark year” in 2025, achieving an 18% increase in sales compared with the previous year.

UK auction house York Machinery Sales has reported a landmark year in 2025, achieving an 18% increase in sales compared with 2024.
John Deere 6155M tractor (2016) sold for £45,000.

The nine major sales, each attracting up to 1.3 million catalogue views, were supported by a growing national and international buyer base now exceeding 60,000. This includes a strong following of private buyers, farmers, end-user purchasers, dealers and exporters.

The sales consistently attracted around 3,200 registered bidders for each sale, and in total, 38,436 lots went under the hammer, with a sell rate up to 91% and an average of 87% sales over the year achieved via the timed online auctions at the York Auction Centre.

The sales drew a large number of bidders from Ireland (both North and South), Central and Eastern Europe, North Africa and even Chile. This extensive reach achieved premium results, with February and March registering the highest volume of farm machinery and equipment sales.

Richard Tasker, managing director of York Machinery Sales, revealed there has been a remarkable 150% growth for the sales since pre-Covid, and he has already received significant registrations for next year’s sales, which will see new innovative improvements, including a York Auction Centre (YAC) app.

He said: “We are excited to introduce these innovative improvements in the New Year to the online bidding platform, which is part of our commitment to enhance our customer service and experience.

“Central to this will be a new YAC app that will provide sale details, information, and news together with customer account access for sales history and a payment platform link.”

‘Affordable second-hand options’

Mr Tasker added that the auction house is “delighted” with the support from vendors and purchasers who have made 2025 a record-breaking year.

“We saw phenomenal interest and excellent prices as the high cost of new equipment increased the demand for affordable second-hand options.

“Our opening sales in February and March set the tone for the year with over 4,500 lots in each sale, including an increasing lineup of high-quality tractors and machinery, with this strong trend achieving great results throughout the year.”

The first York Machinery Sale of 2026 is now open for entries, closing on Thursday, 5th February. The timed online auction will begin on Friday, 13th February, and conclude on Wednesday, 18th February 2026.
