The group has been occupying the top of an active pig gas chamber since the early morning of Wednesday 3rd April, shutting down operations at the company.

A Norfolk Police spokesperson said that officers are on scene dealing with the incident.

They added: “Officers were called following reports of a number of protestors had gained entry to a food facility in Brandon Road, Watton at 6.07am.”

At midday, at least two arrests were made on site by Norfolk Police.

Joey Carbstrong, an activist and film maker, posted on Pignorant social media: ‘This action follows my latest investigation, featured in the Independent, which found pigs being hit in the face before being gassed to death in horrific torture. […]

‘Please don’t support any industry that exploits sentient animals, help us share the truth and live vegan!’
