Mr Over was a vice chairman of the Suffolk Agricultural Association (SAA) and a former director of the Suffolk Show. He is survived by his wife, Kate, and sons, Tom and James.

The SAA team said that they were “deeply shocked and saddened” to learn of the passing of Mr Over.

SAA explained that Mr Over first became involved with the association as a volunteer around forty years ago when he started stewarding at the Ipswich gate entrance for the Suffolk Show.

Then for a number of years, he worked as the show’s senior steward for catering and hospitality. He carried out the role of honorary deputy show director four times before serving a three-year term as the honorary show director.

Mr Over had been a member of the SAA trustee board since its inception and had served as vice chairman since 2018.

He hosted the annual Farming Awards Dinner, the Show Judges and Stewards Dinner and managed car parking at the annual School and Country Fair event, which is attended by 4,500 primary school children each year.

A spokesperson for the SAA said Mr Over dedicated a huge amount of time to the association and, while taking all his roles and responsibilities seriously, always brought humour and laughter to every occasion.

‘Incredible friend and colleague’

SAA chairman Bill Baker added: “Peter leaves a huge void in the association both as a friend and colleague, but our principle thought is for his wife Kate, their sons Tom and James and wider family members.  All our thoughts and prayers turn most to them at this time.”

Mr Over was also a lifelong fan of Ipswich Town Football Club and served as an official club ambassador as well as a trustee of the Ipswich Town Foundation.

He was also a director of Ipswich Town PLC and held the position of deputy lieutenant for Suffolk, which saw him attend events in the county on behalf of the Royal Family.

Ipswich Town chairman, Mark Ashton, said: “Everyone within the Ipswich Town family is devastated to hear the news that our good friend and club ambassador Peter Over has passed away.

“To say Peter has been an incredible friend and colleague since we joined the football club is an understatement. His support, friendship, and personal guidance to me have been invaluable.

“We are heartbroken to lose someone so special to us and someone who genuinely cared about his club, working tirelessly to support both the club and Foundation every day.

“Our sympathies and love are with Peter’s family – he will be missed immensely.”
