A spokesperson for the group told Farmers Guide that the decision has been made with a “heavy heart”, confirming that Farmers To Action disbanded due to constant disagreements.

The official statement reads: ‘Farmers to Action was established to unify and bring together farmers across Britain, giving them a collective voice at a time when the industry was facing significant challenges. That mission became even more important following the inheritance tax changes proposed by the Labour government, which acted as a catalyst for many farmers to come together under one banner.

‘Despite the considerable efforts of everyone involved—particularly the leadership team, who dedicated an exceptional amount of personal time, energy, and finance to this organisation—it became clear that the goal of unifying all farmers was not achievable under the current structure. Multiple groups began splintering off, individuals left for various reasons, and the organisation risked falling into debt or potential debt. These pressures created mounting challenges for the team and for the sustainability of FTA.

‘Compounding these difficulties, there were divisions and actions by some senior members who wished to pursue activities that were not only inappropriate and contrary to the peaceful nature of the organisation, but potentially illegal. These actions posed unacceptable risks to both the organisation and its members, and ran entirely against the principles on which Farmers to Action was founded.’

The statement noted that the organisation began to ‘fall into the wider trap of politics’.

A spokesperson for the organisation said that “farmers and politics do not mix well, and this was never the intention for FTA”.

‘FTA was never designed to become another political body’

‘Increasingly, external political organisations with separate agendas—often not led by farmers—attempted to influence and steer the direction of Farmers to Action. This posed a real risk of pulling both the organisation and, more importantly, British agriculture into the political arena unnecessarily. There is already an established voice within British agriculture that operates at the political level. FTA was never designed to become another political body.

‘Fundamentally, this shift conflicted with the founding purpose of FTA: to remain an apolitical, grassroots organisation created solely to give everyday farmers a voice. As with all things, sometimes a rethink is necessary. The situation became untenable, and the legal directors made the difficult decision to formally close the organisation,’ the statement continues.

However, the spokesperson for FTA said that the spirit of the organisation “does not end here”.

FTA said it will continue supporting initiatives, projects, and individuals who wish to continue carrying the baton forward in a way that honours the original purpose and values of the group.

‘Two forthcoming National Unity events are happening on 24th and 26th November. These are organised by independent groups within the wider movement, and farmers from across the country are already getting involved. Details are circulating in the chats, and you can join in however you feel able,’ the statement reads.

A spokesperson for FTA added: “It is a very sad day that this has had to happen, with all the work put in. However, we are proud to be able to bring so many people together who didn’t know each other before.

“Farmers fix problems everyday of their lives. The power they could have working together could fix all the industry faces. Unity is the only way to change this industry.”
