High-capacity trailer and spreader developments

At LAMMA 2024, Richard Western is launching a new tandem axle version of its DS150HD/DS175HD Delilah rear-discharge manure spreader and updates across its trailer ranges, including an upgraded suspension system.

The new short-chassis version of the flagship 24t-capacity SF24HS Plus Suffolk trailer cuts tipped height from 9.5m to 8.5m.

The new tandem axle option for Delilah horizontal beater/spinning disc manure spreaders is an alternative to the standard single axle with its large tractor-type wheels and 580/70 R38 tyres. Aimed at high road mileage users, it provides a smoother ride at speed on the tarmac, due to the spread of the load over two axles and because the tandem axle arrangement is suspended, with mono leaf springs partnering a sprung drawbar to cushion the spreader body from shock transfer created by potholes and road humps.

The 560/60 R22.5 tyres also provide a combination of high load-carrying capability with good flotation characteristics and good road handling. Smaller wheels and tyres mean less braking effort is required, while braking four wheels rather than two boosts efficacy.

The 420mm diameter/180mm-wide brake drums are designed to handle more than the load imposed by the spreader, which has the same unladen weight as a single-axle model with larger wheels and tyres.

Among the upgrades to the full range of Richard Western Suffolk tipping trailers for 2024 are new running lights. Mounted along the side of the trailer, these cast a beam down onto the road or field surface, marking out the extremities and enhancing visibility and safety. Meanwhile, all Suffolk trailers of 15t capacity and above now feature an uprated suspension to enhance ride and stability. This sees the 76mm single springs previously fitted replaced with new 100mm wide double-leaf parabolic springs with a suspension equalizer featuring outboard bushes.

Also on the Richard Western stand will be a new short-chassis version of the flagship 24t-capacity SF24HS Plus Suffolk trailer, with height when tipped reduced from 9.5m to 8.5m. A smaller hydraulic cylinder size and a reduced tractor oil demand of only 56 litres are required to match.

Other exhibits will include a BTTA16/28HS Bale Trailer with BPW air suspension, 560/60 R22.5 tyres and a rear steering axle, plus the Richard Western Safe Lock bale clamping system for quick and safe load securing from the tractor seat.

An SRT20 Plus Stone and Rubble Trailer completes the stand, fitted with a Transcover front to rear sheeting system and new twin-leaf 100mm-wide torque arm suspension. Made to withstand the high-duty cycles of professional groundworks and construction contractors, the 12.5m3 trailer has a flat bottom design for easy cleaning.
