Farm mechanic to complete 900-mile tractor drive for charity
12th August 2025
Billy Kitcher will drive his 1954 Fordson Major tractor from John O’Groats to Land’s End for mental health charity #Willdoes.

Dorset mechanic Billy, 23, will take his vintage tractor, which has no cab and an average speed of 18mph, on the 900-mile trip for charity next month.
The journey will kick off on 8th September and could take up to two weeks, with Billy camping most nights and hoping for occasional hospitality along the way.
#Willdoes is a charity dedicated to the memory of William Paddy, whose life tragically ended at the age of 14. His mother, Les, set up #Willdoes to help young people who may be finding life tough and struggling to cope with daily life.
Explaining the reason for the trip, Billy said: “I woke up one morning and thought, ‘Why not?’ I’ve got two weeks off work, can’t afford to go abroad, and I’ve always wanted to see more of Scotland. So I figured, if I’m going to do something, I might as well do it for a good cause.”
He added: “I take part in the Christmas tractor run every year for #Willdoes. I know people who struggle with mental health, and it’s something really close to my heart.”
Billy’s grandparents were farmers and he has spent time working on farms himself.
He is hoping his journey might catch the attention of Jeremy Clarkson, who has also raised awareness of the mental health crisis in agriculture.
“I’d love Clarkson to notice – I’ve got an old-school tractor, a bit of grit, and a great cause. What’s not to like?”
Billy will be joined by his friends Jack Macey, driving a Nuffield 10/60, Bill Parsons in a Ford 6710, and Wootton Fitzpaine.
