Advanced collar boosts pregnancy rates and health

Introducing the AfiCollar, which livestock farmers are praising for its accuracy, ease of use and training programme.
AfiCollar, which launched in March last year, is an integrated system for milking and cow monitoring using an advanced neck collar. It was developed by Afimilk in response to market demand for collar-based meters with a rumination health indicator. The company has been producing the AfiAct pedometer, leg-based activity meter since the mid 80s.
Since the AfiCollar’s launch, users have so far praised the accuracy of sensors and ease of interpreting data, as well as Afimilk’s comprehensive training programme.
Unique benefits include a PC-based programme with app control, that is not totally reliant on web connection; as well as up-to-date software with constant development from Afimilk’s R&D team – which makes up a third of the firm’s employees.
It can also be a standalone system for cow monitoring only, or it can control the sort gate, and work as ID in parlour as well.
The collar provides accurate and time-sensitive heat detection data for improving your herd’s pregnancy rate. It can be used to identify which cows to inseminate and the best time for insemination. This is also ideal for grazing cows.
Additionally, the collar monitors animal behaviour (rumination, eating, and motion). This information is translated by AfiFarm to provide updated, round-the-clock monitoring and warnings for groups, and individual cows.
AfiFarm’s smart technology uses the data to learn the rumination and eating patterns of the herd.
Accurate rumination and eating patterns are used as indicators of each cow’s health. Health alerts can be sent when cows stray from their patterns, detailing the changes and possible causes. Group digestion alerts are also provided when changes to these patterns occur at a group level.
The collar works with Afimilk’s MPC Milk Meters and AfiLab to provide accurate data on the quality of each cow’s milk, and their individual health. This data is used to provide early detection and alerts of health issues, such as ketosis.
