Speculation rife over potential second series of Clarkson’s Farm

After recent speculation that popular farming show Clarkson’s Farm had been renewed for a second series, fans hopes were dashed when a comment from Clarkson himself appeared to suggest the show would not be renewed.

Responding to a question on Twitter about whether Prime was shooting a second series, Clarkson said: ‘No. We aren’t. Write to Amazon, it’s their decision.’

A number of media outlets including The Mirror and The Sun subsequently reported that Amazon Prime had not been renewed for a second season, prompting outrage from fans of the show online.

Sports reporter Lewis Cox responded: ‘Shocking. One of the most uplifting, cheerful, fun things that’s been on in a long time.’ While another Twitter user commented: ‘This was a brilliant show, Jeremy. You seemed extraordinarily happy going through it. Hope you can capture that lightning and enjoy it again. Fingers crossed Amazon realizes what they have here and find a way to do a S2.’

Addressing the media reports, Clarkson tweeted: ‘That’s just the communists at the Mirror being mischievous. I shouldn’t pay any attention to it.’

Clarkson had previously said earlier this month: ‘Dear everyone. There has been some speculation that a second series of our farming programme has been commissioned. It hasn’t but we are hopeful.’

Reported to be Amazon’s highest-rated show yet, Clarkson’s Farm has been credited with shining a light on some of the key issues affecting farmers – from the impacts of extreme weather and crop failures to the struggle to remain profitable.

In a TV first for Clarkson, viewers saw the real emotional, personal and financial cost of these losses.

On a less serious note, the series charted Jeremy’s bungled attempts to take shortcuts during drilling, a brief foray into herding sheep using a barking drone and the endless exasperation of his farm manager Kaleb Cooper, who quickly became a firm favourite with viewers.

Despite rampant speculation, Amazon Prime has not yet confirmed whether or not a second series will be commissioned.
