A child under the age of two has been killed on a farm in the Buckland Brewer area, following a collision with a tractor.

Police were called just before 8am on Saturday 13th May and the child, from the Holsworthy area, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

In a statement, Devon & Cornwall Police said next of kin had been informed and the Health & Safety Executive. ‘This death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is to be prepared for the coroner,’ the statement concluded.

A local farmer is quoted by Metro as saying the accident is a “dreadful tragedy in the farmyard”. He added: “Please everyone be aware and careful on your individual farms at this time of trying to get maize and silage done and farming being under extreme pressure.”

A spokesperson for HSE said: “We are aware of this incident and supporting Devon and Cornwall Police. Our thoughts are very much with the family at this time.”
