Cycling challenge held in honour of the late Holstein UK CEO

Teams from UK Dairy Day and the Holstein UK Group, along with any volunteers, will cycle 867 miles on spin bikes, to raise money for Sue Cope’s chosen charity, Brain Tumour Research.

Sue worked for Holstein UK Group for over 25 years and the organisation says ‘she was not only a fantastic leader, but an inspiration, mentor, and friend’. She was instrumental in making UK Dairy Day happen each year since 2014. Sue passed away earlier this year after a short but courageous battle with illness.

The ‘Cycle for Sue’ will start on Friday 9th September and conclude Friday 16th September, the same period that the team will be at The International Centre in Telford for UK Dairy Day.

The Holstein UK Group are cycling two spin bikes a total of 867 miles. Bike 1 will go from Land’s End to UK Dairy Day (307 miles) and bike 2 will go from John O’Groats to UK Dairy Day (560 miles).

Brain Tumour Research is the only national charity in the UK focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours through campaigning to increase the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.

“We are honoured that the Holstein UK Group are fundraising for Brain Tumour Research, inspired by the loss of chief executive, Sue Cope. Whilst the loss of a much loved and respected colleague and friend is heart-breaking, I am sure that the whole team will achieve their goal whilst raising money and awareness,” says Melanie Tiley from Brain Tumour Research.

Hannah Williams, head of events and marketing at Holstein UK adds: “In memory of Sue we felt UK Dairy Day was the right platform to fundraise for Brain Tumour Research. We start setting up at the International Centre for UK Dairy Day on Friday; at the same we will start cycling a total of 867 miles on two spin bikes. A JustGiving page has been set up and we welcome donations in advance or on the day.”
